  • The English-language debut of Norwegian director Morten Tyldum and the feature film debut of screenwriter Graham Moore.
  • Casting Call: Leonardo DiCaprio.
  • Potential Directors: Ron Howard and David Yates.
  • Alan Turing and Benedict Cumberbatch are actually related. According to the family history site Ancestry.com, the two are 17th cousins with family relations dating back to the 14th century.
  • The Human Rights Campaign, an American LGBT civil rights advocacy and political lobbying organization, honored The Imitation Game for "bringing Alan Turing's legacy to a wider audience".
  • Convicted in 1952 for homosexuality (still criminalized at the time), Alan Turing opted to receive chemical castration in lieu of prison. He committed suicide two years later. In 2009, after a massive internet campaign, UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown made on official apology to the Turing family and the LGBT community for the British government's treatment of Turing. In 2013, Queen Elizabeth II granted Turing a posthumous pardon. Due to The Imitation Game another campaign was launched in 2015 to pardon the other 49,000 gay people convicted under the same law that led to Turing's arrest.
  • Despite its near-universal acclaim and awards, The Imitation Game was criticized for its portrayal of certain historical events and its depiction of Alan Turing, specifically the purported downplaying of his homosexuality.
  • The highest-grossing independent film of 2014.
