  • George Arthur Bloom's original screenplay was inspired by a true story about a gay man in New York City, also named Rudy, who befriended his young Autistic neighbor. Despite having a compelling story, it took 32 years for Any Day Now to be made, following a rewrite by the film's director Travis Fine. His one major change to the story was changing the boy's affliction from Autism to Down Syndrome.
