Notes/Trivia:
  • Bret Easton Ellis' novel The Rules of Attraction was first published in 1987. Ellis has said that of all the film adaptations of his books, this film came closest to capturing his sensibility and recreating the world he created in his novel.
  • Casting Call: James Franco, Christina Ricci and Will Wheaton.
  • The character Sean Bateman is the brother of Patrick Bateman, the lead character in Bret Easton Ellis' infamous novel American Psycho. Christian Bale, who played Patrick in the film version of American Psycho, was asked to reprise his role for this film but declined. Casper Van Dien replaced him in the role, but his scenes were eventually cut from the final film.
  • Ironically, the "End of the World" party scene was filmed on September 11, 2001.
  • Cameos include Bananarama singer Sara Dallin as herself, porn star Ron Jeremy as a piano player and singer/songwriter Paul Williams as a doctor.
  • Multiple versions of this film exist, as cuts were made so it could receive less restrictive ratings in the US and other areas.
