  • Internet Movie Database: 7.1/10
  • Rotten Tomatoes - Critics: 100% / Audience: 64%
  • OMG rating: 6/10

  • DVD: Available

  • Writers Guild of America Award nomination for Best Comedy Written Directly for the Screen.

  • In order to get honest and realistic responses from the cast, no one except director Michael Ritchie and screenwriter Jerry Belson knew prior to filming the final scenes who would be crowned the Young American Miss.
  • A stage musical version of Smile, with lyrics and a Tony Award nominated book by Howard Ashman (who also directed) and music by Marvin Hamlisch, premiered on Broadway in 1986. Jodi Benson, who made her Broadway debut in the show, would later voice the title character in Disney's The Little Mermaid, which featured songs by Ashman. Although the Broadway production is considered a flop and an official cast album was never made, the musical has developed a cult following over the years.
