Awards:
  • Thailand National Film Association Awards for Best Picture, Director and Supporting Actress (Boonyasak).

Notes/Trivia:
  • That the gay storyline was not apparent from the film's promotional materials (which marketed it as a typical teen romance between boys and girls) initially caused controversy in its home country. Nevertheless, The Love of Siam was well-received both commercially and critically, winning the Best Picture prize from all the major Thai film award organizations.
  • The Love of Siam is unusual among Thai films in that, at 150 minutes, it is markedly longer than most other Thai films. A 173 minute "director's cut" was later released successfully in theaters, and is also available on the Thai three-disc DVD special edition. It is also rare in the Thai film industry for dramas to be produced, as well as to depict "straight acting" gay characters.
  • Thailand's official submission for the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar at the 2008 Academy Awards.
