Synopsis:
Six girlfriends reunite for a caving expedition, but their adventure goes horribly wrong when a collapse traps them deep underground and they find themselves pursued by a strange breed of flesh-eating predators.

Notes/Trivia:
  • It was initially planned to have a co-ed cast, but the filmmakers decided to defy horror movie conventions and go with an all-female cast.
  • The original British ending of the film was deemed "too dark" for American audiences and was edited out of the US version.
  • The American poster art for The Descent was inspired by photographer Philippe Halsman's "In Voluptate Mors". This same imagery was also used in the poster for The Silence of the Lambs.
  • A sequel, titled The Descent Part 2, was released in 2009.
