Synopsis:

  • Dorothy Baker's novel Young Man with a Horn, first published in 1938, was loosely based on the life of jazz trumpet player Bix Beiderbecke.
  • Lauren Bacall's character Amy North is hinted at as being a lesbian. When her husband Rick Martin (Kirk Douglas) walks out on her, he calls her "a very sick girl".
