  • Writer/director Jonathan Caouette's first film.
  • Initially made for a total budget of just $218.32, using free iMovie software on a Macintosh personal computer.
  • While the film was being developed, it came to the attention of filmmakers John Cameron Mitchell and Gus Van Sant, who signed on as executive producers.
  • Walk Away Renee, Jonathan Caouette's companion film to Tarnation, documents his cross-country journey with his mother Renee Leblanc, who is to enter an assisted living facility close to Caouette's home, necessiating a move from Houston to New York. It premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2011, and was released internationally in 2012.
