Notes/Trivia:
  • Because Paul Franklin Dano (now known as Paul Dano), who played Howie, was underage at the time of production, his mother Gladys was present on set at all times and played the non-speaking role of Howie's deceased mother in several flashback and dream sequences.
  • The poem Howie recites in the car is "Out of the Cradle Endlessly Rocking" by Walt Whitman.
  • L.I.E. received an NC-17 rating from the MPAA, although the rating was later surrendered and the film was released without a rating. Both an edited R-rated version and the original unrated/uncut film are available on DVD.
