Notes/Trivia:
  • Henry and June: From the Unexpurgated Diary of Anaïs Nin (full title: Henry and June: From A Journal of Love: The Unexpurgated Diary of Anaïs Nin (1931–1932)), published in 1986, was based upon material excerpted from the unpublished diaries of Anaïs Nin. It was the first of currently four volumes of unexpurgated diaries, and concentrated on her passionate involvement with Henry Miller and his wife June Miller.
  • Director Philip Kaufman actually met Anaïs Nin in 1962.
  • Casting Call: Alec Baldwin.
  • Henry & June was the first film to receive the MPAA's newest rating of NC-17, which had been devised as a replacement for the X rating. NC-17 was intended to signify serious, non-pornographic films with more violence or (especially) sexual content than would qualify for an R rating.
  • The first and, to date, only Oscar-nominated film to be released with an NC-17 rating.
