Notes/Trivia:
  • Casting Call: Sienna Miller.
  • Film debut of actor Michael Fassbender.
  • King Leonidas derides the Athenians as "boy-lovers." It was, in fact, the Spartan army that was reportedly thought to encourage homosexual relationships among soldiers due to the fact that a Spartan male would live with his fellow soldiers till about 30 years old.
  • Some have interpreted the effeminate, flamboyantly-dressed portrayal of King Xerxes as gay. Director Zack Snyder said that 300’s homosexual undertones were intended to make young straight males in the audience uncomfortable, because “What’s more scary to a 20-year-old boy than a giant god-king who wants to have his way with you? ... Some people have said to me, ‘Your movie is homoerotic,’ and some have said, ‘Your movie’s homophobic.’ In my mind, the movie is neither. But I don’t have a problem with people interpreting it the way they’d like to.”
  • Comic Sarah Silverman joked that the title was a reference to how gay the film was "on a scale of 1 to 10".
  • A sequel, titled 300: Rise of an Empire, was released in 2014.
