Notes/Trivia:
  • Originally shot for television, My Beautiful Laundrette was released in cinemas and became Stephen Frears' first international success.
  • Both My Beautiful Laundrette and A Room with a View opened in New York on the same day in 1986. Both movies featured Daniel Day-Lewis in prominent and very different roles: in A Room with a View, he played a snobbish Edwardian upperclassman, while in My Beautiful Laundrette, he played a lower-class gay ex-skinhead.
  • My Beautiful Laundrette was released on DVD and Blu-ray as part of The Criterion Collection in 2015.
