  • The first few minutes of Latter Days remakes C. Jay Cox's 1998 short film Reason Thirteen.
  • The first film to portray the clash between the principles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and homosexuality. Its exhibition in some US states was controversial, and various religious groups demanded that the film be withdrawn from theaters and video stores under boycott threats.
  • Writer/director C. Jay Cox based both lead characters on himself. He was raised as a Mormon and served a mission before coming out as gay, and had wondered what the two halves of himself would have said to each other if they had ever met. He also wrote or co-wrote several of the songs featured in the film.
  • Adapted into a novel by author T. Fabris, which was released in 2004 by Alyson Publications.
