  • The first major American motion picture to revolve around gay characters.
  • The original Off-Broadway production, directed by Robert Moore, opened in 1968 and ran for 1,000 performances.
  • The entire original Off-Broadway cast recreated their roles for the film. It was the film debuts of Frederick Combs, Reuben Greene, Laurence Luckinbill, Robert La Tourneaux, Keith Prentice and Peter White.
  • Model/actress Maud Adams also made her film debut in a brief appearance as a fashion model in the opening montage of scenes.
