Notes/Trivia:
  • The title comes from a line spoken by Dr. Pretorius (Ernest Thesiger) to Dr. Frankenstein (Colin Clive) in Bride of Frankenstein: "To a new world of gods and monsters."
  • To date, Ian McKellen is the only openly gay actor to be nominated for an Oscar for playing an openly gay character.
  • One of only three films since the advent of the Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar to win the award without receiving a Best Picture nomination as well. The first was 1952's The Bad and the Beautiful, the second was 1996's Sling Blade.
